Helping Your Parents Move; Without It Taking Over Your Life

Financial Consultation Meeting

You can see it. The house is becoming too much. Maybe it is too big now, too isolated, or your parents are struggling with the stairs. You know a move makes sense; but every time you bring it up, the conversation goes nowhere. And even if they do agree, you have no idea where to begin or the weekend visits or long distance phone calls are just not enough to support them through taking action.

You are not alone. Thousands of people across the country find themselves in exactly this position; wanting to help an ageing parent make the right move, while managing their own job, their own family, and the weight of knowing that getting this wrong matters enormously.

At Sage & Elder, we work with families just like yours every day. We are here to help.

You Are the Sandwich Generation

If you are caught between caring for ageing parents and raising your own family, you are part of what is increasingly known as the sandwich generation and the emotional and practical load you carry is very real.

Helping a parent move is not just a logistical challenge. It involves navigating their fears about leaving a home full of memories, managing family dynamics where siblings don't always agree, and finding the right property in a market that can feel bewildering. All of this while trying not to overstep, not to rush, and not to make your parents feel as though decisions are being made for them rather than with them.

This is where having an independent professional alongside you makes all the difference.

How Sage & Elder Supports Families

We work with both your parents and with you; acting as the calm, trusted professional in the middle who can have conversations that are sometimes harder coming from a family member.

Because we are independent, your parents hear our guidance differently. We have no agenda other than their well-being and their best outcome. We listen to what they want and align this with their practical needs. We build a plan around their wishes, their timeline, and their circumstances.

We also keep you informed and involved at every stage, so you always know what is happening without having to chase for updates or manage the process yourself.

What We Do; Seen Through Your Eyes

Smiling Family Gathering

  • Understanding the Options - We begin with a Home Move Report; a comprehensive, personalised assessment of your parents' situation, their property, their finances, and their options. This gives the whole family a clear, objective picture to work from, and often opens conversations that were previously difficult to have.

  • Finding the Right New Home - Whether your parents are considering a smaller house, a retirement community, or a more supported living environment, we research, shortlist and attend viewings on their behalf; asking the questions that matter and ensuring every option genuinely meets their needs.

  • Managing the Move - From instructing solicitors and estate agents to coordinating removals and decluttering through to settling in, we handle every practical detail so neither you nor your parents have to.

  • Preparing the Property - If your parents' home needs work before it goes on the market, or their new home needs adapting before they move in, we project manage all renovation and preparation work through our Property Preparation & Renovation Management service

  • Being There - Perhaps most importantly, we provide steady, empathetic support throughout the process. We are a trusted point of contact your parents can call when they feel uncertain, and a reassurance for you that someone is looking out for them.

Ready to Talk?

Whether you are at the very beginning, and not sure if a move is even the right decision, or you are ready to start planning, we would love to have an informal conversation.

We begin with a free, no-obligation 30-minute introductory call. This is an informal chat to understand your situation and answer any initial questions. We will then arrange a Home Move Consultation, a complimentary one-hour meeting at your home or online, worth £250, where we take the time to understand your parents' needs in depth and begin mapping out the right next steps together.
